Yes it is. For a few reason:

For people to take you seriously

    For people to understand you

For people to not ban you

    For people to like you

That's in a forum sense anyway

Why?

This isn't just about Thoih or school, I'm talking about MSN as well. How far is too far when it goes to ignoring basic English?

I saw this coming.

Speed isn't an option, if you spend all your time typing like a tool (no offence), then you will get quicker at typing like tool. Spend time getting used to adding punctuation to your sentences then you will get used to it and it will become second nature, you'll become quicker and more respected because of it. You've seen the speed that I type at, granted, I've spent a lot more years on computers than you have, but I started out by typing like that. Now it takes me LONGER to type with shorthand because I have to think about how to spell the word improperly.

I actually take my time writing out a post as oppose to an MSN conversation, MSN is about instantness so I don't bother capitalising anything. But taking the time on here it makes posts a LOT easier to comprehend and you'll be respected more because of it.

Clarify - I started typing like you are now. But as I grew up it became more important that I know how to spell and voice myself, since this is how I do it a majority of the time.

And you've seen how much this place moves in an hour. There's hardly anything unless there's a big discussion about love/arguments. It would probably take longer to read everything that happened overnight than to reply to it with commas and full stops. Razz

Normally on MSN whenever someone talks like a tool I ignore them. I don't capitalise on MSN, and I use the odd shorthand like wtf, brb, lol, atm, etc. What really pisses me off is when people type in emoticons.

Robbie, your posts are a little hard to read, and I wouldn't take this thread as running you down because of it. I think it's just a little advice for you to take on board. Otherwise, I can still get the gist of your posts.

Exactly, what I'm getting at at least is that run-on sentences are hard to keep track of, use some kind of pause at least. Like on MSN, I over-use commas, but it's a way to break it up so it's readable.

I always get to threads late... Spelling isn't that big of a deal to me while reading other peoples posts, as long as i can still decipher them. Punctuation is a bit annoying but as long as you can still understand what they were saying its not that big of a deal. When someone's trying to put forward a serious argument and they type like a twat then the argument loses a few points on the importance scale - Unless it looks like they were typing badly because they were angry then it adds to the argument that they put forwards.

At least thoih doesnt have too many emoticons... i try to not talk to people that talk to me in only pictures.

I used to be a complete narcissist about spelling, punctuation and grammar with other people.

I take pride in my English, and I do appreciate when others do the same. I understand that people make mistakes, but intentional stuff kind of irks me.

I remember when I first joined Thoih, I told Elliot that his opinions didn't matter to me because he wouldn't type with proper punctuation. Hahaha, my first bit of stirring - lovely. However, I've become a lot more lenient about it now. I occasionally type like a 'tard just to be a smartass to the people who TyP LyK DiS.

I also dislike the emote speak on MSN. Especially if my net isn't being the fastest at the time, it takes forever to even load the emote, so all I'm reading is, " r u y ." It's just plain annoying and in my opinion it completely destroys the real purpose of MSN emotes. Aren't emotes supposed to be for showing your emotions over the web? Not for replacing words with retarded flashy crap.

I do ask that people make what they say legible. I don't care if you type with no capitals anymore, just as long as I know where the sentence ends and begins, and I can decipher it.

It's become a habit of mine to just generally type well. I think it's better in the long run, particularly if you're going to be doing a desk job in the future. Better off getting good at it now than later on when you've grown accustomed to typing silly.

Smile

That also annoys the heck out of me. One day, my computer was being stupidly slow and some emoti-person talked to me. When I say emoti-person, I'm saying that they pretty much have an emoticon for EVERY letter. I had to drag down the blank boxes to the text box just to see what they were saying. I just gave up, said 'shut up' and closed the conversation.

I used to have the worst netspeak though.. it was absolutely shocking.
My 8th post on Thoih: what do u reckon the deal is with retarded people and God? what do u reckon happens? (btw this isn't meant to be funny). I soon wisely changed my ways.

Hahaha, oh gosh. You've grown immensely.

I completely get what it's like to talk to an "emoti-person". I used to have a lot of contacts who did that. They soon were blocked. It annoyed me too much.

"oi eliza e dl u o k"

Me: "What?"
