Well, here is my problem with the whole “Planetshakers” thing. I feel that people are worshipping the band, more so than the God their lyrics are praising. Over the three days of Planetshakers when the lights dimmed and people started screaming. My question is that of “why are they screaming?” Then… “Do they actually idolise the band?” After each session, there was a flood of people buying merchandise. I was one of them yes, but I really have had enough of this whole Planetshakers thing. The band’s message is superb and what they are doing is commendable yes, but the profiteering? No.

They also pushed forth this thing that we need to be Planetshakers. The “image” of a Planetshaker was pushed constantly. It actually made me quite guilty of not buying anything or being a “Planetshaker”. Is being a loving Christian not enough? Well that’s why I am giving away all of my stuff that I bought. There was this other thing that came along. Sponsoring children, they constantly pushed it… constantly! I mean, it reminds me of a telemarketer selling you a product. When a person wants a product, they will look for it. If I want to sponsor a kid, then I will when I’m ready.

Now here come the fans… As I said before it seems to me that people worship the band and not the music. I look around and I see a LOT of people carrying on about the band. Some people on here do it a lot too. They carry on about “do you have the latest Shakers album?” and hey did you listen to that “song X”. The way it goes on. And wanting to have “Planetshakers” played all the time, its actually quite upsetting. People carry on about as though Planetshakers is the ONLY praise and worship band on Earth. And if you don’t blast Planetshakers all the time, you’re made to feel like a pagan or a non Christian. I personally find a lot more enjoyment listening to Living Sacrifice, Mortification and Virgin Black for my praise music rather getting caught up in the hype of listening to the latest Shakers album. It seems that people are Planetshakers fanboys and girls rather than dwelling in their message.

I mean the conferences are great, you meet many people, and the sessions are great. But are people really making a raucous because they are there for God, or too see Planetshakers? There’s also Reggie Dabbs as well… He is a phenomenal speaker yes. But is he the only speaker? No. People seem to carry on and idolise Reggie Dabbs and not his messages.

That’s me and my view on things… Oh, and all my Shakers stuff is up for grabs, for free

I agree, it's not the band, it's the music and the message that's important.

One point I wish to bring up is that PlanetShakers music. Yeah, the message is there, but it's getting redundant now. I'd prefer to just listen to the same songs over and over again, rather than listen to a "new" song that sounds exactly the same.

I realize it's for P&W purposes, but yeah... if they really want to bring out something new, why don't they make it sounds new, instead of just the same as the others...?

Which leads back to the point that PlanetShakers seems to be doing it all for the profit now. Making new albums, and people buy them, but they really do contain the same lyrics, same tunes, and same message.

I'd be happy to take the stuff of you anyway, just because it's free.

As much as you probably see me as one of these people, I'm not. I only know the names of one of the people in the band because his name was on my Youth Alive ticket. I buy the albums because I LIKE TO WORSHIP GOD. Why don't I listen to your bands, or really any other bands other than PS, United and a few smaller bands which you wouldn't have heard of? Because I just can't really get into some kinds of music, not to praise and worship God anyway. I admire the ability that bands like PS have to write that type of music, I haven't found a whole lot of bands like it, but what the flippin heck, I don't idolise them.

I bought a shirt. So sue me, I like shirts. I bought a CD. I like being able to worship God all the time, ok?

And Reggie Dabbs.. what he preached about had more of an effect on me at the time, that's why I asked if we could watch the Reggie Dabbs DVD first. Not because of him, but because of what he preached about.

But then again, that's just me.
Continue to think what you like.

yeah, i went through all this junk, talked it over with norman, eventually i came to realise that if you apply my black-or-white-everything-separator (the one that says that if something isn't from god, it's most likely from either the devil, though sometimes a little less direct) to planetshakers, we can see that their conferences etc aren't really doing satan any favours; therefore we can deduce via that black and white device that they're of god, and that they glorify god. as for the merchandising, it's a pretty simple way of telling whether someone's a christian or not if they're wearing a shakers shirt... then conversation, and you can't really have a conversation between two christians go for very long before someone learns something.

planetshakers gets people saved, just the same as the catholic church - all the rest is insignificant compared to that.

Wilkins.

It is okay to get excited about a band of people leading worship. They are screaming because the whole thing is exciting. People like going to loud concerts and having a good time etc. It's fine to love a band that lead people into worship, there's no problem there. But if you start going to things like that just to hear the band and not actually worship God and believe the lyrics you sing, then that creates a problem for yourself only.

At the end of the day, it's not about ourselves it's about God.

I don't think that anyone on here worships the band planetshakers themselves but i deffers know where you're coming from with this. Whenever i hear that Reggie Dabbs is preaching i get excited because its him, and then i have to take a moment and remember that i should be excited for what he's saying not who he is. I think that he's an excellent preacher that can really bring it down to our level, but I'm still guilty in the regard that i get excited for him not what he does.

I don't think that anyone on thoih/youth loves planetshakers more than the message. PS has a few fans on here but its because they simply enjoy the music and the message. The merchandise they're not pushing onto us, PS need to make money some how so they can continue what they do. It's up to you if you buy the shirt or not, i thought that they looked very spiffy Cool And sponsoring a child... they're pushing that because the children need you. Its that simple.

People are excited about the new album because they liked the original album. How is it wrong to be excited about new music and new messages?

Dude... thats just stupid. They love making music, they love spreading the message and you have no right to tell them to stop and say that they're in it for the money. You have no idea how much money they lose from PS conferences... the tickets that we buy dont even get close to covering the costs of getting in the speakers/hiring out the place. Thinkk before you talk because what you said was just plain offensive.

You don't have to like the band/music itself, just enjoy the message and listen to someone else.

Yep. That is basically it when it comes to me. I enjoy when I "worship" and communicate with God. But when it just listening to them any other time, nah... BRING ON NILE!

I remember at Planetshakers and the beginning of this year, when we just kept singing the same chorus over and over, =Oh Praaaise Him, Jesus, Jesus= and at first it was really annoying but then they told us its because it kept the devil away because we weren't afraid to stay strong and keep worshipping God. In fact, I think that very man was Reggie Dabbs, who I love not only for his spectacular words because i can understand them. But because he is in fact a role model for many kids. He's a great motivational speaker (something I'd like to do when i'm older) And he just has this connection, that he makes with people that's something I admire greatly. =By the way, Reggie Dabbs is from America, without the proceeds from Planetshakers, they wouldn't be able to get him to come, I'm thankful for that for the fact that they can actually get him over=

fair few of the speakers are yanks, actually... but we won't go there yet.

i don't see what's wrong with loving a certain speaker. or even a band... i love the band at church, and at pring street, sue me? i love that trevor fella from church camp, and i loved the preacher at this church my mum took me too.

maybe sometimes the people are getting excited about the music rather than the praisenjeezes, but i'd be willing to bet that the majority aren't.

Omg..They so don't do it for the money, but they need to get an income some how don't they and that's what God blesses them with, after all their hardwork pays off in blessings.

Of course no worship song is going to have a different meaning, worship is about praising God and about His son taking up the cross for us.

Same as pastors, their work if they are the senior and executive pastors, requires full time approach. They can't just do that and work somewhere else, so it's natural they get paid for it. Selling CD's deserves payment. They worked hard in the studio, they make songs about God, praising His name. They are new songs every time, of course ultimately about the same thing, God..But they aren't the same context of lyrics. Far out.

And I love the Hillsong United and Planetshakers CD's and they deserve every cent they get when people purchase them. Besides, the money goes to Planetshakers itself, not the people in the band.

I haven't denied the band's intentions. I am talking about the fans etc.

Well, when it comes to all of this... I discussed with Eliza and Elliot tody about all of this and yeah I guess its ok. But the question remains.

Well how the hell would you have it Wilkins. Imagine the band waiting to start playing the first song and it was silent and no one was screaming?

That's just now how it goes mate.

You ask, you get answered I see no problem.

Also they need to make money because of several members of this very board who do not pay for Planetshakers albums.
