What do you think on the whole God and illegal stuff like that?

What I'm talking about is burnt CDs or music (yes, christian included), games, anything that you don't own legally but you have anyway, stuff like that.

What I think about it is that it is wrong, but the only reason I think that is I have a really good conscience. I download illegal stuff and I get this really sick feeling in my gut, but I just say to myself, "well, everyone else is doing it so it must be ok!" But seriously, is it really ok? Would God think it's ok to be stealing people's profit?

Let's just pretend for a minute that our now non-existant youth band became the next planetshakers. Would we like it if we did all the hard work only to get a tiny portion of money that we deserve?

What do you thinK?

I agree Penny. But in my house I am not allowed to by metal music (much anyway). When I get a job, the first things I will be getting is the music that I burnt/ downloaded. I have told God this, and yeah. If I don't I'll be accountable I guess...

EDIT: any why does EVERYTHING have to be compared with bloody Planetshakers. It seems to me that people love the BAND and not the message. But I'll get to that later.

Yeah, I admit I'm a little guilty. I deleted all my illegal music just before, but I have the music books for mainly two albums. I've promised myself that I will pay for them when I get the money.

I'm just going to comment on the if it's us portion...

If we do turn out to be the next 'shakers, then what would you be more occupied with? Getting the message out or the profits? Yes, if everyone downloaded it then that would make it a lot harder to get the message out, but someone buying it, then that person will share the cd with a few people (debatable whether it's the same, but it pretty much is). They rip it, then those people might share it a bit further with a burnt copy, and it spreads, then people will buy it and we'll end up having more profits than if people bought it and didn't share it around that way.

Same with downloading it, there has to have been one person to have an original, it's just shared around a bigger group of a few 100 people instead of 10 or 20.

One more thing to add: If it wasn't for downloading some of these albums, I wouldn't have heard about the artists, and I wouldn't be buying their CDs once I got the money. Yes, I am starting to try and get the CDs, I just need to find enough money.

Arghhh, I'm not just talking about Planetshakers ok?? Any band! Even the non-christian ones, they've put in the effort, they deserve not to have their music stolen like that unless they've put a free download on their site or whatever.

When it comes to this sort of thing... I believe the message of God is free... It's like saying "come to Jesus, for a fee of 59.99".

There are some bands that I respect and I love (yes, musically speaking) and I WILL NOT download. Mortification, for example. I WILL NOT DOWNLOAD ANY cause of the amount of respect I have for them.

But Planetshakers... Who wants my Planetshaker '07 shirt?

The emphasis of the thread wasn't on US, it was on people stealing what isn't theres. Movies, music, seriously, if you (anyone in general) look at all your illegal stuff and added up what it would have cost it'd be a lot.

As for my view on this... I think both parties are in the wrong.
We're wrong for downloading, yet the artists (or record labels) are wrong for charging so much for the CDs! Hahaha.
I mean, c'mon, nearly $30 for a CD? Sure, it helps pay the artists, but they don't need to charge that much. That just ENCOURAGES piracy.
"I can't afford that!" *downloads*

Drop the prices, then maybe I'll buy my music.
They'll still make their profit, and I think more people will buy their music, leading to more profit.

Music is NOT that expensive. 30 bucks for a CD yes. But then it's a thing called shopping around.

My last 3 CDs I bought add up to $14.

I have also downloaded 5 and a half albums today. If I was working (which unlike others I'm actually working on getting a job) I would be buying stuff.

My principle is unless it's special I won't pay more than $25 for a CD. Also I used to run by I'll download about 4 songs, if I like, I buy album. Then I found Albumbase.

30 bucks can be perfectly justified as a price if you actually think about. Artist royalties, songwriter royalties, record label cut, manufacturing costs, shipping over here, distributing amongst the stores and the retailer, which in the case of CD stores must pay over $1000 in rent, staff wages, utilities, advertising etc.

Get it? Got it? Good.

i've already gone over this, even worked out a way to apply it to reality. albums cost heaps because by the time a jillion people download it the publisher is flat broke, so they need to make their stuff back... using classical music as a benchmark (almost zero piracy, expensive production, low sales) i work out a just price for an album to be about six to eight bucks. my solution, buy every third or fourth album legally, pay in full.

i think my position is perfectly justifiable.
