PostPost subject: Planetshakers! Reply with quote

Hey

For those of you who didn't go, Planetshakers was amazing, for those of you who did, I don't have to tell you do I?

Well this thread is pretty much an excuse to give Elliot an answer to a question that he gave me yesterday at church. This is not flaming or me saying he is wrong or challenging the almighty wisdom of Elliot, but just providing another avenue. The question went a little something like this...

I don't see the point of planetshakers, it's good for a little while but afterwards everyone just goes back to the way they were and it doesn't really change you much in the end or deepen your relationship with God.

Well I thought long and hard yesterday about what Elliot had said and a number of things popped into my mind, I dunno if it was God or if it was just me, but yeah I'd like to give an answer if you dont mind (dont hurt me).

I guess one person I thought about was Daniel Norman. He is one of the most passionate people for God that I know, he even stood out at Planetshakers for crying out loud. I dont know how anyone could say that Planetshakers can't make a difference for you in the long run when you know Daniel as well as you do. Planetshakers made such a difference in his life and it might have worn off, it might not have, but I know that the next time he was ignited he burned even stronger than before. I think it's the same with everyone, everytime you experience God you grow, and it never dies down. It might be a while before you experience Him again, but when you do, it's bigger and better.

Another thing that stood out to me was when I was at church last night and I heard something said. I can't remember exactly what it was but it just struck a chord with me in regards to what you had said. It was something like you must keep striving for the Lord and keep reaching out. I thought I wrote it down in my notes but I must have written it, what I did write down was "When you aren't getting a constant revelation church becomes ritual.", I don't know if that helps to explain what I have forgotten, I guess it was something like you have to take every chance you get to get into God's presence and to feel him with you, it was all about opportunity.

Now I know that you don't have to go to Planetshakers to experience God, but man it was strong and it was a great opportunity. Personally it was the first time I actually cried during worship, sometimes my eyes water but Matt Fielder was up there talking about family and he asked all of those who had family who weren't saved but wanted them to be saved to stand up and for the first time I stood up straight away without even thinking what if no one else stands up, what if this doesnt apply to me. God touched my so powerfully and I'll tell you something, even if my fire does go down, I will still remember this and burn even brighter the next time.

Sure planetshakers might just be weeklong rush of God to some people, but if you start treating it as though "oh its gonna die down so I wont bother getting into God's presence this time, do you start passing up every opportunity to spend time with God?

Now I have more to say but its dinnertime and I really have to go, hopefully we can talk more about this and understand what you mean a little better.

You beat me to it josh... i was planning on doing one of these topics but you did it nicely... Yes Planetshakers was an amazing time - nearly to the point of 'hard-to-explain-' times... I just couldnt get over Reggie's Passion for us when his own son's last night could have been that night! I was blown away!

I HATE THE DEVIL!

well, i've had a bit of a think myself, about the whole reggie-devil-his son story. and i remembered that the devil only attacks things to attack god.

it's actually a reasonable way to tell if a church is on track, they are under constant attack (as i write that i think 'holy shit, so that's what wednesday night was about!'...MSN me for that story though.), the church in its right ways becomes a priority target for satan.

so whenever satan targets something like that, deliberately goes out of his way to attack something, you know it's gonna harm him.

so there, just by good ol' logic we work out that satan hates planetshakers. because he's afraid of it.

HAR!

According to Ben's mum there is a difference. Also according to one of the little books in the toilet that difference is true.

So crap at Ben's.

Religious is the concept of having rituals and rules and structure and what not like saying your 20 hail Mary's or praying every 10 minutes facing Mecca.

Christianity is simply the concept of being in a relationship with God. According to whatever branch of Christianity the active prayers in the group are, rituals are unnecessary and blasphemous. Or something along those lines.

It seems odd to me too.

I think that we think of it as being religious only by word association.

Metal is my religion, Christ is my life...

Religiousness is basiclly the repetitive action to "follow" your religion. For example Islam, you HAVE to pray towards Mecca, you HAVE to pray 5 times a day... those are prime examples of RELIGION..

God and me is a relationship, that has no boundaries, anything is possible. I dont need to go to church every week, I can dress anyway I want to (within reason)

The difference between other "religions" and Christianity is that other religions set boundaries and Christianity sets guidlines...

I hope that helps

well not really.

im pretty sure christianity is classified as a religion. anywhere ive heard of anyway. i guess its called a religion everyone except within itself. how strange.

and with islam. i dont think anyones checking up on you. like i could become a muslim and not pray towards mecca or whatever. what are they gonna do, kick me out?

True...

Originally Christianity was not classified as a "religion" but over the years it has taken the religion mould. With "having" to go to church and other such things...

It also should be noted that the Christianity you "know" and the Christianity that I know are two completly different things

wilkins is back.

but yeah, the thing you need to understand claire is that primary school christian classes is not christianity. those classes are purely designed to outline the very basics of christianity. i only remember my education on 'repentance.' not how to do it, or why, or who to, or what will happen if you don't, just what the word means. 'to be truly sorry and change the way you live'

being in those classes and saying you understand christianity is like a man looking at the sky and saying he understands the universe. it doesn't happen*.

*except perhaps by ministry of the spirit. that stuff is good shit, i had it going awhile back! just, talking to this person i didn't really know at all, not my words, and i reckon really effective... awesome!

Claire, I am going to show you a couple of images ok?

The church above a church that is displayed across the media, an old boring and derilect church. No life at all

A church that is not showed to the media as much as the derilect one

A church service of one of those old churches... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Wink

A different style of church service, a bit better

The sort of preacher you expect to see on TV to represent the Christian people

One not you are not going to see

A Christian you are probably going to see on the TV to represent us, a wrong interpretation

Christians that you will not see represented as much...

Sorry to kill peoples bandwidth, but I had to get the point across that what you see Claire is not the real Christianity..

good try matthew but im not as naive as you think.

i am actually familiar with all those images. i know those things exist, even though theyre not in the media. i dont think of christianity as old boring and all that. its pretty obvious we're not living in the dark ages anymore... times have changed. and anyone with half a brain would have noticed.

but to me, christianity will always ben considered a religion. because i think a religion is a way of life. and i think christianity is a way of life for a lot of people. so its a religion. from my point of view anyway.
and you're not going to be able to change that. i understand your point, and i can see why you dont like to call it that. but as you said, im different to you. so you cant expect me to agree.
