PostPost subject: Best Musical Era? Reply with quote

I read Wilkins'ssss metal genres post and listened to some stuff from now, and just took a jump back to about the 30s. Which decade/era do you think has had the best music?

I personally think that the 80s wins. You've got a real emergence and diversifying of genres, with the technology and what not you've got more variety and more widespread distribution of stuff.

Of course all this has been around in the 90s and beyond, but most of the BIGgest acts of popular music established themselves in the 80s, and really most stuff now has just fallen into the framework made then.

I'm not bashing any era imparticular as I enjoy stuff from pretty much all, but I think the 80s is better. What about you?

*inspired by Metanoia- In Darkness or in Light*

I am going to say, strictly from a metal perspective that from 1986-1997 was an awesome era for metal. The greatest metal bands formed around 1988 and released their best stuff in this time bracket. After that metal declined (coinsidently this is when hardcore and metal started massforming) but to be known that metal is now picking up in 2005- with many awesome releases from all sorts of bands. Bands making their best records since the early 90's. For example, Mortification's greatest album Scrolls of the Megilloth (A metal masterpeice) was nearlly topped last year by Erasing the Goblin. Not to mention Virgin Black and their awesome display in Requirem- Mezzo Forte.

From a metal perspective 1986-1997 was an awesome time with many bands and perfect albums being released. Look at 3/4 of the metal bands that have been around for more than 10 years and you will find that the majority of their best work was in that period and their wost being between 2000-2004

Is it only you and I that appreciate music? Or are we the only ones who know what we are talking about?

Give us time!
I'm not up for writing an un-biased essay on the best era of music just yet.

I'd say the Classical Era.

*leaves it to look biased*
