"Mal 3:10 Bring ye the whole tithe into the store-house, that there may be food in my house, and prove me now herewith, saith Jehovah of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it."

A doctrine has arisen from this single verse, that has spread into churches worldwide. it is a doctrine of pride and wealth, reconciled with christ's entire teachings on poverty, humility and the kingdom by this ONE verse in malachi.

the senior pastor at sydney's hillsong church rides a harley, lives in a large house, and his church under his leadership spends more than two thirds of it's income on its own ministries, rather than in donations to the poor, missionaries, and the like. closer to home the Mt Gravatt Tribe of Judah's senior pastor rides in for a sunday's work in a brand new V-8. in a different congregation, concerningly based next door to the tribe of judah, the senior pastor compares God the father to an X-BOX, and compares church to watching the footy with mates. preachers of prosperity in general believe that they need to spend their incomes extravagantly to show non-believers how much god has blessed them.

these churches are blessed with large congregations, powerful worship and a bounty of souls reaped with each meeting... but every week the message is the same: get saved, be strong, be wealthy. God doesn't want you to be poor, he wants you to be overflowing in worldly riches (obviously, because that's what spiritualism is about). so give generously into the collection.

they say God wants us to be rich on this earth, i get $100 a fortnight in disposable income... by their standards i would be poor. but by my standards i am the richest person alive, i have a great family, beautiful friends, and i do my best to "" deliver into the store-house the whole tithe. now i'd call that blessing... just because i don't ride a harley into church doesn't mean that god never blessed me.

now, i wonder how such an absurd doctrine arose. seems to me that there can only be one source, that the body of christ has been placed under a curse. so many people speak negative words of the church as a whole, even people who've never been to church seem to know, 'they only want your money.'.. if i'm right and this is indeed spiritually sourced, we need to do our best as intercessors in prayer, we need to fight this. a false gospel only produces false apostles... so brothers, sisters, we need to take this battle into the spiritual. into our quiet times, devotionals, and prayers. we need to thank god for keeping this false doctrine out of vision church, thank god that geoff has the wisdom to see through it.

Did you know Elliot, if everybody in the world divided their incomes and split them equally. Each person that is able to work in the world would be sitting on an income of around 80-90 000 dollars a year. Yes, that is true. That's the facts. But no, people are so greedy. And unfortunately, just like the crusaders, Christians have manipulated the Bible to fund their own greedy ambitions.

And it is because of these people, the whole Christian people get judged.

For the record they tried to do that once, i.e. splitting up the wealth. They called it communism. Not the greatest example to be led by.

In theory it would be agreat idea, but in the real world the average person needs something to aim for in their life, and if income was gonna stay the same regarless of their job or lack of a job, it would be less likely that the average worker would care to much about what he/she was doing.

I recommend reading a book by George Orwell, called Animal Farm, its a book that about how splitting up wealth causes massive problems. It's analogous of communism and its downfall, quite a good read, if i may say so.

yeah, that's true, we as a society will always need surgeons, but i can't for the life of me see why we need donald trumps, richard branstons and bill gateses. the sort of people, multi-billionaires that earn in a day what most people would hope to earn in a lifetime. that sort of wealth, that sort of greed, it just isn't necessary.

i read once that for the cost of a single harrier jet one point five million people could be permanently supplied with clean, safe drinking water.

i know which one i'd choose, the harrier every time, because who gives a shit about those people over there?

the very fact that we as a race put military technology, devices designed to kill people, before compassion i think shows us where we are, where we've progressed to...

mind you, it's not like we can do anything about it. maybe sponsor a few kids, that's it really. the superwealthy won't let go of their stuff, so the vast majority of money remains tied up.
